"Dental cavity" is a hole in the tooth due to destruction of the tooth layers - enamel & dentin. It is caused by the acid produced by bacteria which ferment sugar from our daily food intake. These bacteria remain attached to the tooth surfaces with the help of a thin sticky film known as "Plaque" and so this plaque deposit needs to be cleaned properly on a daily basis with the help of proper brushing and flossing our teeth, otherwise cavities may form.
Simple tips to prevent plaque deposition and cavity formation are:
1. Twice daily brushing teeth with a flouridated toothpaste
2. Using dental floss for interdental cleaning
3. Go for regular dental checkups to a Dentist
4. Avoid sugary food and drinks in daily diet
